Community Heritage Saturday 21st March, 11am- 3pm

Our Reconstructed Iron Age Roundhouse is almost finished. Come along to the free Roundhouse Family Fun Day on Sunday the 21st of March where we will be adding the finishing touches. Get muddy and help finish daubing the walls by covering the walls in a mixture of clay, soil, sand and straw, or help trim the thatched roof and decorate the inside using Iron Age paint. There will be lots of other activities to try on the day but please come prepared for the elements and a fair bit of mud and muck.

Heeley City Farm Spring Fayre, Saturday 27th March, 11am -3pm

We’re hoping for some sunshine in March to celebrate spring on the Farm. We will have stalls and entertainment, children’s activities and hopefully a completed Iron Age Roundhouse to celebrate too. Meet staff, volunteers, animals (and maybe some new arrivals?) and enjoy fantastic food and drinks in the Farm Kitchen. This is always a lovely event so please tell family and friends and let us know if you want to get involved in any way on the day.

 Grow Your Own Organic Food

Family Fuel Busters continues the work we have been doing for the past ten years helping people to reduce fuel bills, keep warm and well and learn about local schemes that can benefit households. We will be working with 4000 primary school children over the next two years and hosting a programme of Family Fuel Buster Fun Days at the Energy House. Dates for your diary are Sat 27 March, Weds 7 – Fri 9 April, Weds 14 – Sat 17 April, Sat 22 May. All Fuel Buster Fun Days are free are run between 11am – 3pm. See www.heeleyfarm.org.uk  for more details.

 Dawn Chorus in May

Join us for a dawn chorus at 6.30am on Tuesday 11th May to listen and document the birds we have on the farm. Phillip Ridsdale is our resident bird expert and he has some fantastic information and photographs about locally seen birds and wildlife if anyone is interested to learn more.

New Faces on the Farm

Heeley City Farm is giving employment to up to 30 staff members through Future Jobs Fund. 3 long term volunteers have received funding from Vodaphone to work for 2 months each with us and we continue to welcome volunteers for all projects. We would like to welcome all new staff and please get in touch if you would like to be more involved in our future development.

Leaving the Farm

Rhian Harding has left the Farm and Energy Centre to join the Regional Strategic Health Authority.  Rhian left very reluctantly after 6 years saying, “Heeley City Farm does so much. The staff does fantastic work supporting adults with learning difficulties, and inspiring young people, tackling fuel poverty, promoting energy and environmental education and helping communities right across Sheffield. It’s also a great and vibrant community hub for Heeley. I am very proud to have been involved and I wish the Farm every success for the future.” Please send any requests for farm talks or events information to John Le Corney at john@heeleyfarm.org.uk
