CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to Year 11 Newfield School students Anthony Bagley, Chris Hanson, Kassim Ashraf, Robbie Fowler, Lewis Cator and Errando Krasniqi. After many years in the Cross Country wilderness, these students have claimed the Sheffield Schools Intermediate League Championship for 2009/2010.
What makes this achievement all the better, is that it is the first time that some of them have competed at this level. Well done lads.
Four students who have also been selected to represent Sheffield in the South Yorkshire Cross Country Championships. Well done to Chris Hanson, Kassim Ashraf, Anthony Bagley (Year 11s) and Ella Fidment (Year 7).
NEWFIELD’S GYMNASTICS SQUAD
Newfield School’s Gymnastic Squads are on winning form! The first Gymnastics competition was held at Sheffield Girls High School on 16 January 2010. The girls had to perform an individual floor routine, two vaults and a team routine. The competition was tough but the gymnasts performed brilliantly. Scores were close and both our teams managed to make it onto the medals. The A Team came 1st, and the B Team won the Silver medal.
The A Team consisted of Laura Allen, Lauren Askwith, Kate Bascombe, Jodie Letch, Charlotte Rhodes and Bethany West. The B Team consisted of Robyn Cadman, Molly Matthews, Emily Newbould, Megan Plumtree, Alice Seggar and Eleasha Stocks.
On 31 January 2010 the Yorkshire Schools Floor and Vault Competition took place at the Gemtec Arena in Hull. In this competition the girls had to perform an individual floor routine and two vaults. Both the U13 team and the U19 team achieved 3rd place. The U19 team had a tough day of competition against teams made up of students from Years 11, 12 and 13 but they rose to the occasion and performed very well. The U19 team consisted of Laura Allen, Lauren Askwith, Kate Bascombe, Eve Cundy, Charlotte Rhodes and Bethany West. The B Team consisted of Robyn Cadman, Molly Matthews, Emily Newbould, Megan Plumtree and Eleasha Stocks.
Newfield School is very proud of their gymnasts and would like to thank all of them for their hard work and commitment; they are great representatives for the school. Special thanks also go to the gymnasts’ families for their continued support and for cheering the girls on at the competitions.
