Could this be the start of an exciting new community hub for Heeley? We hope so!
The City Council have commissioned Kier Sheffield to begin refurbishing part of the old Anns Grove School buildings and work started a few weeks ago. As many of you will be aware, the school has been heavily vandalised over the last few years but these repairs will prevent further dilapidation and enable the building to be brought back into use.
Most of the damage has been caused by the theft of lead from the roof and this is now being repaired using a lead substitute which has no scrap value. Internal works are also planned to enable Heeley Development Trust to occupy part of the site in the near future.
In July 2009, Sheffield City Council agreed to transfer the building to the Trust to help realise its long term plans for new community facilities for the area and since then the Trust has been working hard to secure the funding to make it happen. Andy Jackson, the Trust Manager, says ‘We hope to have funds secured soon to enable a detailed feasibility study to take place and this will give us the information we need to raise the millions of pounds required to refurbish this fantastic building’
If you want to be kept up to date with further developments at the school and opportunities to get involved, contact the Trust on 0114 2500613 or email info@heeleydevtrust.com
