Anns Grove Coming Back to Life

As reported in the March issue of Heeley Voice, work has begun on getting the Grade ll listed Anns Grove School refurbished and back in to use. Following several years of vandalism and neglect, the work to repair the roofs and all broken glass on the Gleadless and Hartley buildings is now almost complete, and the whole site is being cleared ready for re-development.

Following a development grant through the CommunityBuilders Fund, the development plan is now  being  researched in detail. Heeley Development Trust are now working to finalise the new uses of the site, agree the sustainable designs for the refurbished buildings and  establish a clear business and funding plan for the development.

Set in an exciting landscape of outdoor community spaces and gardens, the project aims to provide a new Community and Cultural Hub for the area, comprising a new Community Hall and Meeting Rooms, new accommodation for ReCycle Bikes, Heeley Online Centre and the Development Trust and a wide range of workspace units, rehearsal and event spaces and arts studios, replacing facilities lost through the closure of the Heeley Bank Centre. The plan will ensure that Anns Grove becomes a major asset for the community and a vital focus for culture and commerce in the area.

As part of this research phase, we would like to hear from local businesses, organisations, artists and any individuals who may have an interest in new offices or studios or have an interest in using the varying facilities we hope to provide.
