News From Carfield Primary School

It’s been a really hectic year here at Carfield. After major building works from July to December 2009, we now have an equally major redecorating programme following on from the disruption. With a population of over 550 children, it has been a feat of organisation and everyone has worked really hard to keep things going in school.

One of our halls has been out of use and some of our clubs and activities have had to be put on hold. However, on a really positive note, after just weeks of practice, our gymnastics team won first place in Sheffield Key Steps Competition. I hope you saw the article in the ‘Sheffield Star’. Thanks goes to the girls in the team, Sue Tindale, our Nursery Nurse and coach and parents for their support.

Our football team took part in the first round of the South Africa Cup on 2nd May. They played really well, especially the reserves who came in at very short notice. Sadly we were knocked out on goal difference in the last match. Thanks go to staff, Jorge Marenco and Jaclyn Keyworth, who have worked so hard with the team.

The parents group Carfield Friends are working hard to organise our Summer Fair, due to take place on Saturday June 12th from 12.00pm. Come along and join in the fun! There are stalls, games, refreshments and a variety of activities. Our gymnasts are performing and there will be face painting, a prize raffle and our legendary plant stall. Proceeds are going towards improving our outdoor environment and we need your help. However, more importantly, it is a forum for everyone to get together and develop community spirit.
