Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Hello, I’m Inspector Ian Stubbs from the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs), here to tell you about what’s happening in your area.

The SNTs are planning a week of activities in conjunction with partner agencies, with the aim of making the area a greener, cleaner and safer place for everyone to live and work, by tackling the issues identified by local people. This joint working is crucial in achieving visible results for local people, particularly in relation to improvements in the area.

The co-ordinated week of action will run from Monday 14 June until Friday 18 June 2010.  Prior to the event (in the week commencing 24 May) officers and PCSOs will be consulting with local residents in Heeley to find out what matters to them, and this will influence what we do during the week of action.

Have your say – Come along to your local Community Meeting

As your local safer neighbourhood team, we want to understand and deal with the issues that matter to you the most.

Following the success of the new drop-in-centre located in Morrison’s car park at Meadowhead, your local SNTs are changing the style in which they hold community meetings.

We will be holding further drop-in-centre’s every other month for members of the Heeley community. The mobile police station will be located in the Lidl car park on Chesterfield Road. You can call in any time between 10am and 6pm.

Future meetings are Thursday 29 July, Thursday 23 September and Thursday 25 November 2010.  Everyone is welcome.

To find out what priorities have recently been agreed in your community, visit www.southyorks.police.uk  and type in your postcode, or call 0114 296 3680.

Working together to reduce crime

Working closely with our partners, a number of ongoing operations have contributed towards overall crime falling across the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley area.

In the last 12 months, (March 2009 to February 2010) overall crime fell by almost 24 per cent compared to the previous 12-month period – that’s 1451 fewer incidents.

Criminal damage fell by 25 per cent – that’s 404 less incidents. Violent crime against a person is down by 126 fewer incidents. We’ve had 517 fewer incidents of vehicle crime, and 87 fewer house burglaries.  We can achieve even more with further help from the public – that’s you telling us what you know.

Operation Neighbour –  a successful start

Following the launch of Operation Neighbour in February 2010, Inspector Ian Stubbs, who leads the Woodseats and Gleadless SNTs said: “We are pleased with the positive response we have received from our community. So far, we have visited around 1500 homes ensuring people know who their local SNTs are. Initiatives like Operation Neighbour are a key part of our strategy to raise awareness of safer neighbourhood teams.”

Police officers and PCSOs, whilst out on patrol, have been out knocking on the doors of households to have a friendly chat.  Around 460 residents have provided their email address so they can receive regular information about what’s happening in the local area.

If you would like to receive this type of information please contact the Woodseats and Gleadless automated contact line 0114 296 3680 leaving your email address. We will then update you each month regarding actions we have taken to address local priorities. In return, you can use email to influence what these local priorities are.
