One full-time young people’s worker – young carers work
Salary: £21,500 full time, this post is open to job share. This post is funded for one year initially, further funding is being sought to continue this work
Hours: 35 hours per week including regular evening work, with some weekend and residential work.
We have a vacancy for a highly motivated young person’s worker who will be work across the 8 to 21 age range. The work will include facilitating groups across the city, undertaking referrals and individual work.
Sheffield Young Carers Project is a service for young people, aged between 8 and 21 who are taking on a substantial caring role for someone, who maybe a friend or relative who has a disability, severe illness, mental health needs, or who have a drug/alcohol dependency. It provides support and a regular programme of activities for those taking on a caring role.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, vibrant organisation where your ideas and contributions will be highly valued. You will have:
- A relevant qualification in Youth work or Community Development work or at least 2 years’ experience of working with children and young people in any of the following fields: youth community work, education, health, pa/connexions work, social care and the voluntary sector.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the key issues that affect the health and well being of children and young people taking on a caring role
- Skills and experience of group work facilitation and individual support
- Transferable skills and ability to work across the age range

- You will need to be a team player and also able to work on your own initiative.
- We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the CRB.
