It’s going to be another busy year ahead here at Carfield. With the beginning of a new term, we have welcomed many children and families new to our school, the local community and to Sheffield. The school is part of the Meersbrook Growth Proposals which will mean an increase in the numbers of children that attend our school. The plans to extend the school have now been agreed after intensive and lengthy debate and work will commence possibly around Christmas time. We are waiting for visits from the contractors to agree the schedule of work to manage the site during the building phase. The first stage will be the placement of an additional two classroom block. The Key Stage 1 rooms will be remodelled, extended and upgraded. The work will cause considerable disruption for the whole school, but I am confident that we will manage the changes effectively.
We received a letter from Ofsted prior to the summer break to say that the school has had an ‘interim assessment’ and as a result, it has been decided that as we are a ‘good’ school and have been sustaining progress for our pupils, the Inspection will be deferred until after September 1st 2011. This is great news and we are all really proud of this judgment
Our gymnastics team are back in action and busily preparing for another competition. They have been working very hard and putting in lots of extra practice. Our good luck wishes go to the girls in the team, our thanks to Sue Tindale, our Nursery Nurse who coaches our team in her own time and all the parents who supported us so enthusiastically.
The parents group Carfield Friends are working really hard to organise our autumn events programme and have already organised an AGM on September 23rd and a parents Social Evening on October 21st at the Cross Scythes pub on Derbyshire Lane. All proceeds are going towards our plan to improve our outdoor environment. Carfield Friends is an important forum for everyone to get together and develop community spirit. If you need further details of any of the events or would like to be part of Carfield Friends, please contact us here at school.
We currently have vacancies for three parent Governors. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed people who feel they could make a difference. Specific training and support is available as required. Interested parents who wish to be considered for election to one of these vacancies you must be nominated and seconded by parents of current Carfield pupils. Potential candidates will then be invited to write a brief statement for the parent body to read as part of an election. Please contact the school if you are interested.
Do you like to sing?? If so, why not come along to Carfield Community Choir. It’s open to everyone who enjoys singing, meeting others and having fun. It’s held in the lower hall every Monday evening from 6.30pm -7.30pm. If you are interested, please telephone school on 2557534.
