Sheffield’s South Community Assembly is going to new lengths to give residents in the area the cleaner streets they want.
The assembly has invested £25,000 in employing four part-time street cleaners, known as lengthspeople, to clear litter and improve the look of the area. They are targeting the areas around Greenhill, Lowedges, Meadowhead, Fraser estate, Chesterfield Road, Newfield Green, Nether Edge and Sharrow Vale.
Councillor Peter Moore, Chair of the South Community Assembly, said: “We know that one of the priorities for local people is to keep the area looking tidy, particularly around shops and takeaways.
“Residents are now getting to know their local lengthsperson, who will also help to distribute information promoting other events we are doing to improve their area, such as community weeks of action and general clean-ups.”
