As a result of Sheffield City Council’s £84 million budget savings for 2011/12 the decision has been taken to reduce the library budget by £1.4 million. This includes the decision to reduce the Mobile Library Service from four vehicles to one vehicle and to reduce the opening hours in most community libraries.
We are conducting a public consultation from Monday, 8th May – Saturday, 4th June inclusive with a combination of an online survey and hard copy questionnaires in community libraries. For the Mobile Library Service, as well as a questionnaire on the Mobile vehicles and an online survey we are also writing separately to individual customers who have used the service over the last 12 months. The proposed changes to the Mobile Library service can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/Consultation1174
The information about the reductions consists of a current stops list, a proposed stops list, a questionnaire and a covering letter for customers.
For the community libraries changes, we have organised a questionnaire by library in a Community Assemblies area. For each library we have asked customers to select one day and time when they feel it most appropriate to lose hours. The proposed reductions can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/Consultation1174
