It is a national campaign to help older people start using computers and the internet and this year over 2,000 free digital taster events are taking place across the UK between 16-20 May 2011.
There are over 20 events running through out Sheffield during the week, including sessions at the Online Centres in Heeley and Gleadless Valley.

Events aim to help older folk click into digital age

SENIOR citizens are invited to become silver surfers at events being held across Sheffield neighbourhoods.
UK Online, which aims to encourage more people to use the internet, has organised 24 sessions around the city next week, at six libraries, three tenants and residents associations, four primary schools, four sheltered homes, four community centres, and at Howden House and the Banker’s Draft Wetherspoons pub, in the city centre
Maxine Bowler, who is working with UK Online to encourage pensioners to log on, said: “One in five people aged 55 to 64 have never used the internet, rising to three in five of those aged over 65.
The Spring Online campaign week runs from May 16 to 20, ending with national Silver Surfers’ Day on the Friday.
Maxine said: “It aims to help over-50s find out what the internet could do for them. Computers and the internet can be confusing and a little scary, but they can also open up new opportunities.
“From keeping in touch with friends and family to saving money or pursuing interests and hobbies, you could use technology to help you do whatever you want to do.”
For details of locations of sessions, call Heeley Online Centre on 0114 2500613.
