Friends of Meersbrook Bank School (FMBS), along with many other parents and helpers, organised the event, which, after a morning of dark clouds and heavy rain drops, was a gloriously sunny and warm evening.

Mrs Nailor, usually surrounded by nursery children was a vivacious compere. She introduced the pupils who had put together a fantastic display of school talent including: the school band, Sparkles dance group and the school choir.

While the band played on, some of the dad’s charcoaled sausages and burgers (meat and vegetarian with halal options).   There were queues all afternoon for face painting and henna tattoos, bouncy castle and ice creams.

Local musician Jules played a dynamic acoustic set, followed by the sweet voice of Nicola Farnon and her band, bringing the evening to a close.

Susan Warmsley of FMBS said: “To eat (a barbequed sausage), to dream (soothed by the sound of jazz man!), perchance to sleep (after a glass of Pimms or rose wine), sums up the amazing atmosphere of Meersbrook Bank Primary’s Midsummer Musical event for me.

“It was a great evening enjoyed by parents, children, grandparents and teachers alike.

“To think that it raised loads of money for the school as well was an added highlight.

“I hope it will be a regular feature on the FMBS calendar.”

Other news at Meersbrook Bank include more afterschool activities and new faces amongst the teaching staff are enthusiastically welcomed, while work on the gardens and the play grounds continue.

The School Autumn Fair will be Saturday October 15th 1pm – 4pm. Anyone interested in helping to organise this or help out on the day would be more than welcome.
