After the success of a Cheer Up Honey Pie Tearoom in Meersbrook Pavilion, Jo Hardiman plans to open a tearoom on Chesterfield Road in October.
For the summer, the Pavilion was transformed into a traditional tearoom with bunting, colourful tablecloths, china crockery, sugar cubes, milk jugs, newspapers and pink-pinny-ed waitresses. Cake displays were a work of art. Mouthwatering delicacies included cupcakes, fruit and chocolate cakes, tarts, and scones. This local opportunity to indulge with friends and family on a Sunday morning proved very popular.
Wanting to keep it local, Jo has taken over the old ‘Momtaz’ premises on Chesterfield Road. She is currently installing a new kitchen and redecorating to create an attractive tearoom. Food will be sourced locally where possible: Cat Lane bakery will provide breads; Cafeology (Woodseats), coffee; and Kelham Island Brewery, beers.
The Tearoom will serve light lunches, afternoon teas, and healthy after-school teas. Sundays will be afternoon teas only. Ultimately, Jo intends to open in the evenings with entertainment provided by local performers.
The ethos of the tearoom is bringing people together. Looks like a recipe for success!
