Following Friends of Newfield’s successful South Community Assembly bid, Saturday Club started on 21st January with 19 children and 5 parents attending. Since then attendance has ranged from 30 to 50 people per week! Everyone has enjoyed a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including five- a-side football, table tennis, badminton.and children’s games. The tuck shop has also proved very popular! 8 to 16 year olds can come unaccompanied, but parents and younger brothers and sisters are also welcome to stay and join in. We are particularly pleased that whole families are able to enjoy sport together, and at £1 per child, this is really good value for money.
We currently have enough funding to continue until May, and are hoping to successfully bid for funding so we can continue into the summer, and hopefully, beyond. Future activities planned include trampolining, and, weather permitting, more outdoor sport.
Saturday Club is held from 11am to 1 pm every Saturday at Newfield School and is supported by Friends of Newfield, Activity Sheffield and Newfield School. We would also like to thank Vinci for the use of their excellent facilities. Everyone is welcome so we hope to meet you there.
