… has been going on with Heeley’s health food shop? ‘In A Nutshell’ on Chesterfield Road has been selling vegetarian/ vegan wholefoods for at least 21 years under a succession of proprietors: Vicky, Lynne, Pete, Alan & Barney, and lastly, Sheila who has just retired. Thankfully, two local women stepped up to save Nutshell. In fact, they have exciting plans to refurbish the shop, broaden the range of stock, and reinvigorate the shop’s communal life.
This is a new venture for Heeley-ites, Lynn Williamson and Amanda Ganley, but one in keeping with their prior careers. Amanda comes from a catering background and knows loads about vegan and special dietary foods. Lynn is an artist and a veteran of the festival markets circuit. Lynn’s hand-made cards were, and will continue to be, on sale at Nutshell.
Lynn and Amanda took over the lease on 1st June, and shut up shop for a fortnight’s refurb, including a new frontage. Inside they’ve created shelving space for more stock. Sandwiches will no longer be made, but an improved range of snacks and lunches, including the much loved samosas and burritos, will continue to be sold. As well as the full range of health/ organic/ vegan/ special dietary foods, there will be fresh bread and pastries, and cruelty-free household and beauty products.
Amanda and Lynn are excited that their plans for ‘The Incredible Nutshell‘ have been greeted with such enthusiasm by locals. Family and friends have helped with the refurb, and Amanda and Lynn hope to create a real community focal point – a vibrant and sociable shop with enticing window displays, a pot of hot coffee always on and, weather permitting, a table and chairs outside.
There will be an Opening Party in June >
