Dear Resident,
Welcome to the latest newsletter for the South Safer Neighbourhood area (SNA) covering the council wards of Nether Edge, Gleadless Valley, Graves Park and Beauchief and Greenhill.
As usual I would like to remind you to follow us on facebook to find out daily what is happening in your community. Look me up ( Ian Stubbs) or the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley Safer Neighbourhood team page.
I also have a twitter account @KEInspector.
Following the restructure there is a slight change in the way local priorities ( PACT ) are managed. We now have one local priority identified per council ward area. The drop in session will continue however due to the building work at Morrisons we have had to temporarily move the venue. The next meeting will take place at Sainsbury’s at Archer Rd on 25th July 2012 from 10am – 6pm
You can have a say in how your community is policed. Remember if there are any issues in your area which you feel should be considered as a local priority then please get in touch and let me know.
Our current local priorities are:
Gleadless Valley Ward
Antisocial Behaviour in Meersbrook Park
Nether Edge Ward
Anti social behaviour around St Peters Community Centre and Hale Street
Beauchief and Greenhill Ward
Antisocial behaviour at Greenhill Junior and Infant School after school and in the evenings
Graves Park Ward
Antisocial Behaviour in Graves Park.
This month with the school holidays coming up we have decided to prioritise antisocial behaviour in the Parks in anticipation of increased levels through the summer.
In addition to tackling Antisocial behaviour and PACT priorities the following are some of the positive results from the last month, planned activities and other news.
Its Your Child – You may have seen a number of articles in the press and in particular the Sheffield Star over the past couple of weeks following the launch of the project. We have received excellent support from the Star who report an enormous positive response from the public. Clearly this is an issue which concerns people. I would also like to mention the support given to the project by local councillors and the South Community Assembly.
The first aim of the project is to identify what the particluar issues are at each school. As part of this process Sheffield Hallam University have written a survey on our behalf which will be going out to every parent in every primary school in the area. Could I please ask that if you receive one, you complete it honestly and return it to school with your child as soon as possible but before the end of term. This will be used to help decide what action we take at each school.
In the meantime I am working with the council highways planners to try and improve the safety around schools by improving road markings and in some cases street furniture.
Test Purchase – We conducted a test purchase Operation on 20th June. Thirteen off- licences were visited and I am pleased to report all passed.
Metal Theft – Continues to be a priority. Two Operations are being conducted this week targeting scrap yards in the Don Valley and across the city. Locally we will be repeating our Operation stopping scrap vans sometime in August. Keep an eye on facebook for the dates.
Drugs Warrants – We have executed warrants at Raeburn Rd and Lupton Drive in the last month. Please if you have information about drug dealing in your area either let us know directly or contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be investigated.
Underage Drinking – During the first week of the school holidays we will be having a concerted effort to tackle this issue and that of young people smoking cannabis in our parks. There will be additional patrols in the parks and any young people caught will be receiving a personal visit at home from one of my staff to ensure parents are made aware. In addition I am hoping to deploy multi-agency street based teams into the area. This initiative will continue thorugh the summer holidays
Motor Cycle Nuisance – Again this will be a priority for my team thorugh the summer. We have seen massive reductions in complaints over the past couple of years. Please if you have any information about where bikes are being kept let us know and we wil try and seize them. In the last couple of weeks we have seized bikes on Middle Hay View and Meersbrook Park Rd.
Arrests last month – We have had some really good arrests in the last month and to those who follow my facebook page these will be familiar. These are just a selection….
- Beckett Walk – Three males arrested for Burglary have been charged-
- Constable Rd Coop – Male arrested following armed robbery
- Overend Close – Male arrested following the discovery of a cannabis factory
- Chantry Rd – Male arrested for Burglary has been charged and remanded in custody
- Blackstock Rd – Males arrested for Burglary has been charged
- Norton – Male arrested for Burglary
Thanks for your continued support and remember to join us on Facebook.
