A singing workshop like no other! Open to all ages and abilities, a unique opportunity to experience the fun, silliness and harmonies of one of the best choirmasters EVER, Stephen Taberner, of Australian singing sensations, The Spooky Men.

Ahead of their Penistone concert on the 3rd September, Stephen and a couple of Spooky Men will be delighting us all in the Heeley Institute with their full throated approach to harmony and fun.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale is a vast, rumbling, steam powered and black clad behemoth, seemingly accidentally capable of rendering audiences moist eyed with mute appreciation or haplessly gurgling with merriment. Based on the twin pillars of grand foolishness and the quest for the perfect subwoofer-rattling boofchord, the spookies seek to commentate on the absurdity and grandeur of the modern male armed only with their voices, a sly collection of hats and facial hair, and a twinkle in the eye. They are a huge hit at festivals world over and are particularly interested in Mastadons and garden sheds.

This event is a collaboration between Bright Phoebus, Sheffield’s very own collective of leading acoustic musicians including Martin Simpson and Bellowhead leader John Boden, and The Big Boulder, Heeley Development Trust’s hugely exciting initiative for live music on your doorstep.
