Brooks Williams will be performing at the Heeley Institute on Friday, January 17th as part of the Big Boulder Festival 2014 fundraising nights.
Brooks has spent the last 25 years playing American and Blues on stages and at festivals worldwide, and has been described by Dirty Linen as ‘one of America’s musical treasures’.
Ranked as one of the world’s top 100 acoustic guitarists, Brooks moved from his Georgia birthplace to Boston in his late teens, honing his craft in the rowdy and raucous bars of New York during the week and at the more intimate coffeehouses on weekends.
Support on the night will be provided by a solo spot from Heeley resident Paul Littlewood, seen recently at Tramlines with the Fallen Trees.
He combines repeated guitar patterns with wide-open ambient spaces and raw vocals to produce ethereal low-fi blues, all inspired by a trip to the Leadmill as an eight-year-old to see blues musician Louisiana Red.
“I write my songs on an acoustic guitar then generally let the lyric determine which way the recording is going to go” he explained. “It’s all about giving listeners the freedom to find in the compositions what they wish”.
