On Monday 16 June, as part of Bike Week, there will be screening of an inspiring film, Wadjda in the Heeley Institute
Doors open 8.00 pm screening begins at 8.30 pm, Film to finish approx 10.10 pm
Wadjda is the first feature-length film to be wholly shot in Saudi Arabia and the first feature-length film to be directed by a Saudi woman, Haifaa al-Mansour. It tells the story of a young girl determined to buy a bike so she can race against a boy she knows. Needless to say a girl owning and riding a bike raises all kind of issues about gender, status, freedom, virtue and one’s place in society.
