A recent break-in at the Heeley & Meersbrook Allotment Shop made front page news in the Star & Telegraph and was also widely reported on Sheffield radio. Equipment and stock were damaged, cash and a laptop were taken and the society has lost a considerable amount of money due to the insurance excess.

Although clearly devastated, the allotment society’s members are coming together in a massive push to rectify the damage and financial losses that were incurred. It has set up a new Facebook auction site called “Friends Of Heeley and Meersbrook Allotments” and is asking local businesses and residents for donations of any unwanted items that can be sold to raise money for the society. The society is also hoping to raise enough money to replace the clubhouse that was burnt down years ago and the council have offered to sell them an old mobile classroom for this purpose at a cost of £800.

A plant sale (open to all) will be held at the allotment shop on the 8th May to raise more funds. Starting at 10.00 a.m there will be vegetable and bedding plants available plus a selection of food and drink
