The Handlebards have since covered over 5,000 miles, expanding the tour to Europe, India, Singapore and Malaysia as well as combining performances with workshops at schools country-wide. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, two separate troupes will be embarking on two separate tours, with both the all-male and all-female groups performing at Recycle Bikes in July.
The boys will be tackling Richard III, directed by James Farrell, on Friday, 1st July and will be followed on Wednesday, 27th July by an all-female rendition of the Taming of the Shrew, directed by Emma Sampson. Both shows operate on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, and will be taking place outside at ReCycle Bikes on Thirlwell Road, so keep an eye on the weather. Blankets, rugs and picnic baskets are most welcome.
