Carfield Farm Community Garden

Carfield Farm Community Garden is an area of Meersbrook Allotments, looked after by a group of local volunteer. It’s open to everyone whenever the allotments are open, and on open days and work mornings. The garden, which is on the site where the old Carfield Farm used to stand, was rescued from proposed building development several years ago, and is now a haven for wildlife. It is a beautiful relaxing area with a small orchard, raised herb beds, fruit bushes and a bird hide.

The friendly volunteer group is always looking for new people to join them to help maintain the garden, so if you are interested in helping out with planting, weeding etc for an hour or so, come along on a work morning. These are on the first Sunday every month. Ring Penny Dembo on 0114 2580901 for details.

The next Open Day is Apple Day on October 24th from 11am til 2pm.Follow the signs to the Community Garden from the main allotment site gates. There will be apple pressing using a traditional press, which children can help out with, and of course taste the delicious fresh juice. If you have an apple tree and have any spare apples, do bring them down on the day.
