The autumn issue of the Heeley Voice gives us an opportunity to share the news that work has finally started to restore the former Anns Grove School. After 8 years hard work , ownership of the buildings has now been transferred to Heeley Development Trust to enable the site to be brought back into use as a community facility. The Trust has raised £2.5 million to start the job and the first phase will be completed early next year – the front page of this issue includes an update on the progress made so far
There are a number of articles about events and activities taking place on Heeley Millennium Park – including a great review of the Heeley Festival. There are two pages highlighting the fun and games that have been had in the park this summer plus info about new events coming up soon – including ‘The Big Boulder’ live music event taking place this Saturday! there are more details (and the fantastic line-up) here
Heeley Bottom / Chesterfield Road has seen a lot of activity over the last couple of months – the Sheffield Antiques Quarter proposals are moving on, The Littlest Bookshop has opened, In a Nutshell has emerged from it’s ‘Incredible’ makeover and the ‘secret garden’ on Little London Road is back in safe hands.
September sees the launch of another year of Community Learning courses across Heeley and Abbeydale. There is still time to book a place for this term so have a look at the programme (page 8) and contact Liz, Saima or Maxine if any of the courses interest you – Heeley Development Trust are also delivering free IT sessions in Jobcentres across Sheffield and have a Job Club running at Heeley Online Centre – get in touch if you (or family members) need support looking for work (full details on page 9)
