Following concerns about the issue of speeding cars raised by people living in the South Assembly Area, the Assembly, in partnership with South Yorkshire Police, have purchased a Unipar Speed Camera and Speed Indicator Display Board This equipment has been deployed on numerous occasions in areas where motorists are known to be exceeding the permitted speed limit.
Police Officers have been trained in the use of this equipment, and have used various methods to deal with offenders. These have ranged from ‘words of advice’, to attendance at speed awareness courses, to issuing a summons to the local magistrates court. Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) have also liaised with local schools, and young people have been involved in watching the camera in action as well as handing drivers requests to please slow down.
Following on from the success of the Unipar Camera, the Assembly has now purchased two Speed Indication Devices which many residents may have seen used in various locations over the last few months.
