Sum Studios will be celebrating its first birthday with a open air public party in the courtyard from 6pm – midnight on Saturday, July 19th.
There will be a public bar, street food stalls and live music from Clubs & Spades, Hot Soles, Mike Hughes and Tandem alongside DJ sets by The DJ Pipes, Winston Hazel, Stephen Singleton and Chris Duckenfield.
“This first year has been amazing for us” said Andy Jackson, manager of the Heeley Development Trust (HDT). “We have saved a beautiful building and created a new, vibrant business community in the heart of Heeley”.
“There’s a great buzz about the place and a really exciting mix of tenants – it feels right that we celebrate all of that within the community, so the party is all about getting the people who live and work here together for a really good time”.
The HDT launched phase 1 of the project in July 2013, restoring the first of the three buildings on the site of the former Anns Grove School to provide workspace for 19 private businesses employing over 60 people after 7 years of dereliction.
Sum Manager, Matthew Conduit added “Plans for the redevelopment of the other two buildings on the site are well under way, to create arts studios and workshops, rehearsal spaces, training spaces, a café and a new venue and events hall. As for the party, it’s going to be a really special evening to celebrate this very special place”.
