In January 2008, Sheffield City Council Cabinet approved the proposal to set up a new Affordable Warmth initiative offering a package of free loft and cavity insulation to private householders in the city.  The scheme was launched in April 2009.

The scheme offers free loft and cavity wall insulation to private tenants and homeowners across Sheffield, providing their property is suitable.  The main insulation measures offered are loft and cavity wall, as well as hot and cold water tank jackets.  We can increase loft insulation to 12 inches / 300mm where there is less than 8 inches/ 200mm.  Where needed, extra work such as fitting loft hatches and minor repairs are also carried out  to ensure insulation measures can be installed.  Loft clearance services are also offered for customers who need this support prior to loft insulation being installed.

Residents are offered referrals to a number of services including advice centres, debt advice, fire safety checks, and independent living support service for people aged 55 and above, if required.  If residents are eligible we can also offer to refer them for heating grants such as Warmfront.  Residents will also receive an Energy Saving Trust home energy report, regardless of whether they have insulation installed.

The scheme will work across the city ward by ward, street by street regardless of age, income or size of property and we are now targeting Gleadless Valley Ward.

Residents who want to sign up for the scheme can contact us on the details below.

We are also happy to offer advice, referrals to other schemes and answer any questions about energy efficiency, even if the resident isn’t eligible for the scheme.

There is more information about the scheme, including a questions and answers section about the process, on our web pages
