With last winter being the coldest for 30 years, now is a good time to make sure your home is warmer, and your energy bills are lower in time for this year’s cold snap.  One of the best ways to do this is by making sure your home is well insulated.  Now residents in Gleadless Valley can make sure they are ready for next winter now by signing up for Sheffield City Council’s Free Insulation Scheme, joining over 18,000 households in Sheffield that have already benefited since the scheme was launched in April 2009.

Is it really free?!  Yes, and over 1,000 residents in Heeley, Meersbrook and Gleadless Valley that have already signed up for their free insulation.  Providing you either own your home or rent from a private landlord, and providing your home is suitable, you will pay absolutely nothing for your insulation.  It doesn’t matter how old you are, how much you earn or how big your property is – it really is free!

How do I sign up? To make it as easy as possible for you to take advantage of the scheme, there are a few ways you can sign now:

  • Come and see us at the Heeley Development Trust Online Centre.  The team will be there 21st October between 12 and 4pm to sign you up for the scheme and answer any question you may have..
  • Call the office on free phone 0800 915 9096 and sign up for the scheme over the telephone.
  • Wait for a Council Officer to knock on your door and sign you up there and then. We’ll leave a card if you’re not in, and a number to call if you’d like one of our Energy Advisors to take your details over the telephone, or make an appointment to come out and visit you at a more convenient time.

What is the scheme offering? Our scheme offers more than just standard loft and cavity wall insulation. Here are some of the extra benefits:

  • Insulation for lofts that haven’t been topped up in the last few of years. Lofts with less than 200mm / 8 inches of insulation can be increased to 300mm / 12 inches.
  • Insulation of spaces in converted attics and lofts where possible.
  • Hot and cold water tank jackets and pipe lagging which could save you over £45 a year.
  • Some minor repairs and fitting of loft hatches, if needed to enable insulation to be fitted.
  • Free loft clearance services for those people who need help clearing their loft
  • The cost of scaffolding is included for more difficult cavity wall insulation installations.
  • Cherry pickers and scaffolding is included for more difficult cavity wall insulation.
  • Personalised Home Energy Report from the Energy Saving Trust and energy advice from our trained Energy Advisors.
  • Referrals to other services including Sheffield is My Planet, free fire safety checks and benefit advice.

What will happen next? Eaga Insulation, the ONLY company working on our scheme, will contact you to arrange a free technical survey of your home.  If the survey shows your home would benefit from insulation, Eaga Insulation will arrange to come out and install your free insulation.
