Alexandra Road Community Garden Group is a small group of local residents who use and/or appreciate the community garden space on Alexandra Road (also known as the ‘Top Field’) We meet monthly – usually the first Sunday of the month, in the morning (if it’s bad weather, we usually try to go the following week) to do a general clear up and any necessary weeding, planting etc. We’ve also organised a few very enjoyable events, including a summer ‘bring and share’ picnic and a table-top sale.
Anyone who’s interested is welcome to come along. We’re a friendly bunch and it’s a great way to get to know your neighbours. You don’t need any particular skills, experience or tools – just a willingness to muck in (or even just to make cups of tea or help with publicity) – if you actually know a bit about gardening and plants that would be an added bonus!
If you’d like to be put on our e-mail list (mainly used as a reminder of forthcoming ‘clear-ups’ or date changes), please e-mail: beale@blueyonder.co.uk. Alternatively, just turn up at the next session – Sunday 1st April.
Our next summer event will be a garden party, in line with the ‘Big Jubilee Lunch’. It will take place from 12 – 3pm on Sunday, 3rd June. Bring food and drink to share! A short planning meeting, about the summer garden party, will be held at the next session, before going over to the garden. It’s probably best to email first to check times, if you’re thinking of coming along. If you can’t make this date but would like to help organise the garden party, do get in touch.
